I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles!

This is just a quick post so I can show you guys the Mothers Day card I made Mum!

Happy Mothers day Mum!

It turned out ok…..if a little bland for my taste 😛 I couldn’t get the hang of making the reflections in the bubble warp properly so I had to use a plain background were you wouldn’t notice it as much!! The circular bubbles came out the best I’m really happy with them! I am definitely planning to try this one again and hopefully with a more interesting background!! Oh and by the way…..I still haven’;t finished the Family Tree of Doom 😦 Its coming together though SLOWLY very SLOWLY!! It now has a cool parchment paper background but I’m starting to think i might have to make it bigger……again EEK!!

I also posted a new media case thingy in my Snow Bunnys Knits Etsy shop!

strawberry Ice Cream!

Maybe I need to add something to the Ice cream to make it look more Ice Creamy? A flake maybe? Or maybe the cone needs to be a little bigger? what do you guys think?? The photo isn’t great either….I’m blaming my partner for this as he has been playing with my camara!! He likes to “experiment” with the settings which is fine except he never knows how to get the settings back to how they were when he started playing with it……….

Well I’m off to work now, hope you all have a lovely Tuesday 🙂

Family Tree (of doooooooom!!)

A little while back my Mum told me that some family solicitor guy had sent her a copy of her family tree!! She was sooo excited and to be honest so was I 😛 I love all that sort of stuff! There were so many family members we didn’t even know existed!! It goes right back to the 1800’s!! So I took it upon myself to take this Family Tree, which the guy had completed in word, and make it all cool and stuff in Photoshop……..that was about 6 months ago and I’m STILL trying to do it!! I want it to be a surprise for Mum so I keep having to tell her I can’t do it!!

My immediate family is really quite small.  My Mum only has one sister, my Dad has no brothers or sisters and neither do I! My Auntie had 3 kids but only one of them has had any Children! It’s pretty easy to keep up with them all 😛

Me and Dad!

This is me and my Dad…yes he is a little shorter than me which is funny as I’m only 5ft2 and a bit 😛 This was taken last year so he is 75 in this photo!! People say I look like him but I don’t see it?!?!

Me and Mum!

This is me and Mum……can you believe she is only 4ft10 😛 I’m actually the tallest in my house haha!! We never have any pictures of the three of us as it only tends to be the three of us together and someone has to hold the camara 😛 I haven’t really met many members of my family as a lot of them have sadly passed away.  My Mum and dad are quite old considering I’m 27 and I don’t have any sisters or brothers! I never met my Grandad on dad’s side or my Nan on my Mum’s side and the other two grandparents passed away when I was quite young!! We do. however, have a big ginger cat that scares the living daylights out of me!!

Loki in a Box!

He may look cute all tucked up in this box…but he really isn’t!! Or should I say wasn’t 😛 Age has definitely mellowed him haha!! He still won’t let you stroke him though…or sit on your knee, and he demands to be fed or heads will roll…my dad must have the patience of a saint!!

Anyway back to this damn family tree!! I originally thought I could fit it all on to an A4 piece of paper (we only have an A4 printer here).  After painstakingly writing each line for each family member on a separate layer in Photoshop I discovered this was not going to work! I can’t describe to you how frustrated I was 😛 It took me months to figure out I couldn’t do it…..I feel like I’ve lost a few days of my life there!! Then there is the background! I had visions of a really cool faded tree in the background……can I get it to look right? Hell Nooooooooo! Maybe I can try to make it look like a scroll?? I’m disappointed that the image in my head isn’t working out!!! Boooooo!

My plan now is to make it on a bigger canvas and send it to somewhere like Snapfish or Photobox to print out….I mean at the end of the day it’s just pixels right?? I would really like to get it done before Mothers day, i think she would really love it 🙂

Photoshop of the day……

Jammy Writing!

This is a birthday card I made for a friend of my mum’s son!! I was really pleased with this 😀 I’m planning on using it for a few more cards in the future 😉

Back to basics!

I haven’t read a book in ages!! Ok so that isn’t strictly true…i’ve read How to crochet books and how to sew books and David Attenborough books and even a Mythbusters book…..but not like a story book!! So I decided this morning to pull out my fave ever read and start it again!!

I love this book!

I first bought this book because its set in Barcelona (I would live in Barcelona if It was possible!!), I pretty much read any book that is set there 😛 But once I started reading I couldn’t put it down!! My boyfriend always jokes that i can’t read a book without there being a library and some mystery involved…..and to tell you the truth he is pretty much right haha!! I highly recommend this book to everyone!! I won’t go into detail of the story but you can find details Here!! I don’t really know how it was received, I don’t usually rad reviews etc!!

He also wrote The Angels Game which I of course had to buy!! I made the mistake of buying the big massive hard back copy which makes it slightly difficult to carry around with me…..but it looks sooooo good on my book shelf!!

The Angels Game

The author intends these to books to be part of a four set series….so here I am sitting and waiting for the third one…I guess now I know what it must have been like for all those people who read Harry Potter from the beginning…….! Until the new book is out I will have to make do with these two gems again!! man I hope I don’t have too long to wait!!

Photoshop of the day……

Me on fire?

Well the hair bit worked anyway haha!!

Twinkie Chan Hair Bow….YES PLEASE!

I wasn’t going to Blog today as I have a million and one things to do but I had to share my joy at bagging myself a Twinkie Chan valentines Hair Bow!!!!!!

Twinkie Chan Hair Bow!

I think this is my lucky day as I usually miss Twinkie’s Etsy updates due to the time difference!! I just happened to log on to Twitter and there it was……a tweet to say she had posted some stuff for Valentines Day, and the tweet had only been there for 4 mins!! I hot footed it there right away!! I’m so pleased and I can’t wait for it to arrive!! So if you fancy some cute crochet stuff for Valentines day then go check out Twinkie’s shop, but hurry as these things don’t stick around!!

I may as well do a Photoshop of the day whilst I’m here 🙂

London - High Contrast Black and White.

I think this photo is from Hyde Park…..I really need to start labelling my Photos so I know what I’m looking at haha!! I have a love hate relationship with Black and White, sometimes its great sometimes it just doesn’t work for me….but i do like this 🙂

Behold the Ninja Bread Men…..

No no you did hear me right, NINJA BREAD MEN!! I did a bit of baking the other day and finally got round to do my gingerbread men! As previously stated i’ve never actually managed to make a decent biscuit yet so I had everything crossed…..plus it was a great excuse to use my really cool measuring spoons that look like Russian Dolls!!

Baking Supplies!

So I’ve decided to type the recipe out in case anyone wants to use it. It’s from GoodFood 101 Cupcakes and small bakes which is a really good little book! I’m a complete beginner and I have no trouble at all following it!!

Double-ginger gingerbread men

140g/5oz unsalted butter

100g/4oz dark muscovado sugar

3 tbsp golden syrup

350g/12oz plain flour

1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

2 tsp ground ginger

1 tsp ground cinnamon

2 balls stem ginger from a jar, chopped

To decorate

50g/2oz icing sugar

a few undyed glace cherries, halved then thinly sliced

2 balls stem ginger, cut into small squares

1) Preheat oven to 200c fan/gas 6. Line baking sheets with baking parchment. Melt butter, sugar and syrup in a pan. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl then stir in the butter mix and chopped ginger to make a stif-ish dough.

My stif-ish dough!

2) When cool, roll to about 5mm thick. stamp out gingerbread men, re-rolling the trimmings. Lift on tot he baking sheets and bake for about 12 mins or until golden brown. Cool for 10 mins, then lift on to wire cooling racks.

Cooling my gingerbread men!

3) To decorate, mix icing sugar with a few drops of water until thick and smooth. Spoon the icing into a food bag, snip off just the tiniest bit from one of the corners, then squeeze buttons, eyes and little smiles on to the gingerbread men. Stick on cherry smiles and ginger buttons.  leave to set. Will keep for up to one week in an air tight container.

This is where I went a little crazy with mine……… 🙂

NINJA BREAD MEN!!!!

I got a set of cookie cutters a while back that cut your gingerbread in to the shapes of Ninja’s!! I am SO pleased with these little guys!! The icing bit was tedious though I’ll be honest 😛 I used squeezy icing out of a tube coz I thought it would be easier……..but for some reason it wouldn’t squeeze out of the damn tube properly! I ended up with a very sore thumb and back ache 😛 I don’t actually like Gingerbread so I have no clue how they taste…but really I don’t mind coz every time I look at them I smile a bit 😀

And to my Photoshop of the day………

It's all about the Gaussian Blur!

This is me and my pal Laura (at a Jimmy Eat World gig)! I tried to give us a dream like quality using Gaussian Blur…I kinda like the way it came out!! Softens my rough edges haha!!
